Short version: BurnTheList has no account and no login. Your tasks, completion state, and settings stay on your device. When you use the AI “Plan” feature, the text you type is sent off your device to interpret your request. We also collect anonymous usage analytics. We never use your data for advertising or cross-app tracking, and we never sell it.
The app stores the following data locally on your device only using iOS app group storage (UserDefaults), shared between the main app and the home screen widget:
This data is not transmitted to us. It never leaves your device except as described below.
When — and only when — you submit a request in the AI planner, the app sends the following to our server (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards it to OpenAI to interpret your request and propose task changes:

OpenAI processes the request as our sub-processor and, per its API policy, does not use API data to train its models and retains it only transiently for abuse monitoring. If you never use the AI “Plan” feature, none of your task content leaves your device through it.
If you configure a published Google Sheet CSV URL, the app fetches that CSV directly from Google to build your checklist. The contents of that sheet are provided by you. Your device's IP address is visible to Google as part of any normal HTTPS request. See Google's Privacy Policy.
The app sends anonymous product-usage events to PostHog to understand how the app is used and to improve it. Each event is an action name (such as “app opened”, “refresh completed”, “AI composer opened”, or “theme changed”) together with a randomly generated identifier that is not tied to your real-world identity. These events deliberately exclude your task text, Google Sheet URLs, and AI prompt content. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
If you enable daily reminders, the app schedules a local notification on your device using iOS's built-in notification system. These notifications are generated entirely on-device and are never sent through any external server.
The home screen widget reads task data from the same on-device storage as the main app. No additional data collection occurs via the widget.
BurnTheList is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. The app does not have a mechanism to notify you of policy changes directly, so check here if you have questions.
